Bengaluru FC announced the signing of Danish forward Oliver Drost on Friday. The 28-year-old striker has showcased his skills in the Danish First Division club FC Helsingør. He is now set to replace Curtis Main, marking a fresh phase in the club’s forward momentum.
Excited about his new journey, Drost expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to the team.
“I am really happy and proud to sign with Bengaluru FC. I am looking forward to joining my new teammates and also playing in front of the fans at the Kanteerava. I really hope that I can help the team with goals and assists and that together, we can make the play-offs in the Indian Super League,” he remarked.
His career, rich with Danish football experience and stints in clubs like AC Horsens and Kolding IF, also boasts appearances for the Denmark U19 and U20 teams. Not just a striker, Drost’s versatility extends to the wings, making him a multifaceted asset for the Blues.
Darren Caldeira, the Director of Football at Bengaluru FC, welcomed Drost. He highlighted his promising track record in the Danish League.
“He brings enough experience of playing in the Danish League, and we’ve liked what we’ve seen. 2We are confident of staging a stronger second half of the season, and believe that Oliver will play his part in helping us achieve this,” Caldeira stated, reflecting the club’s high hopes for their new signee.
Gerard Zaragoza, the Bengaluru manager, underscored the club’s meticulous approach in selecting Drost. He described Oliver as a unique blend of a forward with the essence of a playmaker.
“Oliver is a No.9 with the heart of a No.10. He is a striker but also enjoys playing just outside the box, and given the style of football we play, this could be great,” Zaragoza explained. He further revealed their vision behind choosing Drost, emphasising the alignment of his playing style with the club’s strategies.
