Chennaiyin FC stunned Jamshedpur FC with a 5-1 victory in the Indian Super League (ISL) on Monday. The visitors delivered an attacking masterclass at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur. Chennaiyin exploited Jamshedpur’s defensive frailties, marking the visitors’ third win of the season.
The game began with Chennaiyin applying pressure right from the kick-off. In the sixth minute, Vincy Barretto sent in a sharp cross that caught Jamshedpur’s defense. Jamshedpur defender Pratik Chaudhuri accidentally deflected the ball into his net, giving Chennaiyin an early advantage. Jamshedpur’s goalkeeper Albino Gomes could only look on as his team fell behind within minutes.
Chennaiyin capitalized on their momentum. In the 22nd minute, Irfan Yadwad doubled the visitors’ lead with an impressive solo effort. After collecting the ball near midfield, Yadwad showed his skill. He weaved past defenders and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.
Two minutes later, Connor Shields added a third one for Chennaiyin. His powerful left-footed shot came after a quick give-and-go with Yadwad. Shields’ precise finish left Jamshedpur’s defense reeling. It cemented Chennaiyin’s command over the game.
The second half saw no respite for Jamshedpur. Chennaiyin continued their offensive dominance. In the 54th minute, Yadwad intercepted a pass from Chaudhuri and set up Wilmar Jordan Gil. Next, Gil rounded Albino Gomes to tap in Chennaiyin’s fourth one. The goal amplified the visitors’ already unassailable lead.
Chennaiyin coach Owen Coyle added fresh legs in the second half. He brought on Daniel Chima Chukwu, Lukas Brambilla, and Gurkirat Singh. The move paid off as Brambilla struck Chennaiyin’s fifth goal in the 71st minute. A timed pass from Lalrinliana Hnamte allowed Brambilla to curl a brilliant shot past Albino Gomes, making it 5-0.
Jamshedpur finally salvaged a consolation goal in the 81st minute as Irfan Yadwad hand-played in the box. Javi Hernandez converted the penalty, saving Jamshedpur from a complete shutout. Yet, it did little to alter the match’s outcome.
The commanding victory highlights Chennaiyin FC’s strong form and attacking prowess. They are serious contenders in this ISL season. Jamshedpur FC faces a challenging path. They must address defensive lapses and regroup after a humbling home defeat.
