According to sources, East Bengal FC has signed Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, the talented goalkeeper from Kerala Blasters. To get Gill’s signature, East Bengal has paid a substantial transfer fee of 1.5 crores. Such an amount makes him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the Indian Super League (ISL).
Hailing from Ludhiana, Punjab, the 22-year-old Gill started his youth career in 2014 at the Chandigarh football academy. His impressive performances led to his selection by the AIFF Elite Academy in 2016. After a season in the Elite Academy, he joined the Indian Arrows team. The club is the former developmental squad of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), which participated in the I-League, India’s second division.
Following a two-year stint with the Indian Arrows, Gill joined Bengaluru FC for the 2019/20 season. However, the young talent struggled to secure regular playing time. In the next season, he made the move to Kerala Blasters. Since 2020, Gill has been an integral part of the Blasters, contributing to the team’s journey to the Hero ISL final during the 21/22 season.
Gill has also represented the Indian U17, U20, and U23 national squads. Although he received a recent call-up to the senior team, he did not feature in any matches. Gill earned recognition as a former golden glove winner in the Indian Super League during the 20/21 season, boasting an impressive record of clean sheets.
East Bengal FC faced challenges in the last season, particularly in maintaining their leads and preventing late goals. Such peformance often resulted in losing points. With Gill’s acquisition, the team possesses a reliable goalkeeper to fortify their defense.
East Bengal FC, under the guidance of former ISL-winning coach Carles Cuadrat, is undergoing a squad rebuild to enhance their performance in the upcoming season. Since joining the league, the Red and Gold Brigades have never managed to secure a spot in the top six or the playoffs. Yet, with a revamped squad and promising signings, the club is determined to change their fortunes.
