FC Goa will bid farewell to their experienced Spanish midfielder, Edu Bedia, as his contract with the club expired last month. At 34 years old, Bedia leaves as one of the longest-serving foreign players in the league, having proudly worn the bright orange jersey of FC Goa.
The journey began in the 2017/18 edition of the Indian Super League. Talented Spanish midfielder, who had before played at Racing Santander, UD Salamanca, Hercules CF, Barcelona B, 1860 Munich, and Real Oviedo, made the move from Real Zaragoza to FC Goa on a free transfer. From the outset, he proved to be a key player for the team, featuring in almost every match.
Under the guidance of Sergio Lobera, Bedia made an impact in his first season, helping the club reach the semi-finals. Throughout his time at FC Goa, he displayed versatility, adapting to the tactical strategies implemented by various managers. As a result, he became a legendary figure among fans, not only for his contributions on the field but also for his leadership as captain, which led to remarkable achievements for the club.
Among his notable accomplishments during his tenure, Bedia played a pivotal role in FC Goa winning the 2018/19 Hero Super Cup, and ISL League Shield in the 2020/21 campaign. During the same season, he contributed to the club’s victory in the prestigious Durand Cup, one of the oldest football tournaments in India.
Since joining the league, the 2018/19 campaign has been one of Bedia’s most successful seasons. He scored seven goals and provided four assists. His fantastic partnership with star striker Ferran Corominas proved instrumental to the club’s success. Bedia has been part of many iconic moments for the Gaurs, including scoring the first-ever goal by an Indian side in the AFC Champions League group stages.
In January 2023, Bedia achieved a significant milestone by making his hundredth appearance for FC Goa since joining the club in 2017. He played a crucial role throughout his tenure, often making decisive contributions with vital goals, particularly in critical moments. These outstanding performances have endeared him to the fans, solidifying his status as an all-time favorite player.
In June 2022, Bedia extended his stay with FC Goa for an extra year, expressing his excitement to be part of the team’s future. As he prepares to say goodbye to the club and its fans, IFTWC (Indian Football Team World Cup) wishes him the best of luck in all his future endeavours.
