To strengthen their midfield for the upcoming season, FC Goa has secured the services of Australian midfielder Paulo Retre. He comes from Sydney FC in the Australian A-League.

FC Goa faced a tough situation in their foreign contingent following the departure of veteran Edu Bedia. Yet, they have added more firepower to their midfield by acquiring experienced midfielder Paulo Retre. The 30-year-old Australian joins Manolo’s FC Goa ahead of the forthcoming season.

Paulo Retre began his professional career in 2014 when he earned a promotion to the senior team of Melbourne City FC from their U-21 division. He has already made three appearances for the Australian U-20 side, scoring once. After spending three seasons with Melbourne City FC, Paulo attracted offers from rival team Sydney FC for the 2017-18 season.

His fortunes changed dramatically after joining Sydney FC. He made an impact by scoring against his former club. Paulo continued his adventure throughout the 2022-23 A-League season, cashing in four goals and eight assists in 168 games.

While at Sydney FC, Paulo Retre played a crucial role, helping his team secure two A-League titles. His exceptional control of the game’s pace was instrumental in Sydney FC’s performances. Paulo is bidding farewell to Australia as he embarks on his first venture playing for a team outside his native country.

FC Goa was active in the transfer market, securing Sandesh Jhingan, Boris Singh, Rowllin Borges, Raynier Fernandes, Udanta Singh, and Carlos Martinez. It looks like more additions are still on the way. The club is eager to see these new players quickly integrate into the team and contribute to a successful season.
