FC Goa announced that their star goalkeeper, Arshdeep Singh, has signed a contract extension. He will stay with the Gaurs until the end of the 2025-26 season. This extension shows the club’s confidence in Singh’s abilities and highlights his vital role in their plans.
The 26-year-old has been instrumental in FC Goa’s recent successes. Since joining the club at the start of the 2022-23 season, he has been a key figure in their defensive lineup. His performance statistics speak books. In his 17 appearances in the Indian Super League (ISL), Singh has conceded just 14 goals and achieved eight clean sheets. Overall, he boasts 11 clean sheets from 21 matches with the Gaurs.
Singh’s football journey began at the AIFF Elite Academy. He first gained recognition with Minerva Punjab FC. He played a crucial role in their victorious I-League campaign in 2017-18 and their commendable run in the 2019 AFC Cup. His prowess caught the attention of Odisha FC, for whom he made 33 appearances over three seasons, before moving to FC Goa.
Head Coach Manolo Marquez was excited about Singh’s contract extension: “Arshdeep is an excellent fit for our playing style. His composure and skill with the ball at his feet make him an important part of our team. With his experience in the ISL and the ideal age, he doesn’t just excel as a goalkeeper. He can also initiate our build-ups from the back during attacks.
“Extending his contract is a significant step in our long-term plans, and I am confident that he will continue to play a key role in our pursuit of success.”
Reflecting on his contract extension, Arshdeep Singh shared his gratitude: “I am incredibly grateful to FC Goa for the faith they have shown in me. My time here has been advantageous, and I am excited to continue this journey with the club. The support from the fans and the team has been fantastic, and I look forward to contributing more to the team in the coming years.”
This move is part of FC Goa’s broader strategy to solidify their squad during the summer transfer market. The club has also announced contract extensions for defenders Odei Onaindia, Jay Gupta, and midfielder Muhammed Nemil. FC Goa has also bolstered their roster by signing defenders Aakash Sangwan and Muhammad Hammad, as well as goalkeeper Lara Sharma.
