Igor Stimac, India’s senior team head coach, has unveiled a 23-member squad for the upcoming 49th King’s Cup. It will occur from September 7 to September 10, 2023, in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
India, currently 99th in the FIFA rankings, is gearing up to face Iraq, ranked 70th, in the semifinal on September 7 at 16:00 IST. The match will take place at the 700th Anniversary Stadium. Thailand, ranked 113th, will go head-to-head with Lebanon, ranked 100th, in the second semifinal, scheduled for 19:00 IST on the same day.
The winners will clash on September 10 in the final. The defeated teams will contend in the third-place play-off.
India’s national team clinched the bronze medal in their previous participation in the King’s Cup in 2019. They will aim to replicate that success in the current tournament.
The 23-member squad for the King’s Cup 2023 includes a mix of experienced and emerging players:
Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Amrinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh.
