Jamaica beat India 2-0 in the semifinal of the ongoing Unity Cup at The Valley in London on Wednesday, May 27. Goals from Clarke Courtney (8′) and Kaheim Dixon (78′) ensured the win for the Reggae Boyz, allowing them to qualify for the final. The Jamaicans came into this clash on the back of four unbeaten results in five matches. On the other hand, India had only won once in the same period.

Jamaica’s overall showing, however, put the game beyond India’s control. The Blue Tigers were playing on British soil for the first time since 2002, and a quick counter-attack from Jamaica forced them to concede early. Courtney had earlier struck quickly, forcing India goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to make a save in the eighth minute. However, India’s failure to parry the ball away from safety allowed Courtney to finish from a distance.

Dixon was about to double the advantage for the Reggae Boyz nine minutes later, but Sandhu stood firm this time, preventing an error. India managed to go till the end of the half without conceding again. In the second half, India were able to press hard and even found the back of the net in the 53rd minute via Lallianzuala Chhangte. But the goal did not count, as attacker Rahim Ali had earlier strayed offside.

This moment gave India some inspiration. However, Dixon drilled past fullback Akash Mishra in the 78th minute to put the game beyond the Blue Tigers’ reach. This goal was almost a moment of brilliance, with the Charlton Athletic winger taking on defenders comfortably before firing the ball between Mishra’s legs. With this victory, Jamaica booked their spot in the final of the Unity Cup, in which they will face defending champions Nigeria on Saturday, May 30.
