Juan Ferrando has signed an extended contract with Mohun Bagan Super Giant. He secured his position with the Indian Super League’s reigning champions until the culmination of the 2023-24 season. The Kolkata-based team announced on Tuesday, solidifying their commitment to the coach for another year.

Following their win over Hyderabad FC in a qualifier for an AFC Cup preliminary stage spot, Mohun Bagan’s focus now shifts to the Asian competition. While the schedule for the AFC Cup is yet to be released, the club has confirmed that the players will commence training on July 15.

Despite clinching their first-ever ISL title, Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s performance in Asia did not meet expectations. In light of this, the ISL defending champions are determined to assemble a stronger team capable of making a more impressive impact in the tournament.

Expressing his gratitude, Juan Ferrando expressed his delight as he continued as Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s head coach. He thanked Dr Sanjeev Goenka for his continued support. Ferrando assured fans that he and his team would give their utmost in the upcoming season. As the defending champions, they understand the high expectations placed upon them. While their primary focus will be defending their ISL title, they also aspire to achieve better results in the AFC Cup.

Having joined MBSG, formerly ATK Mohun Bagan, in December 2021 from FC Goa, Ferrando replaced Antonio Habas as the head coach. In his debut year, he led the Mariners to the semi-finals, where they lost to eventual champions Hyderabad FC.

In the recently concluded season, Ferrando guided his team to a triumph by defeating Bengaluru FC in the final, securing their maiden ISL title. This success has bolstered their confidence and motivation as they prepare for the challenges.
