Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, April 2. Both sides failed their opening encounters in this tournament. KKR lost to the Mumbai Indians and SRH to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Hence, this game will be all about picking up the first points of the season. The two sides most iconically met in the final of IPL 2024, in which KKR dismantled a high-scoring SRH side for a lowly 113 and then chased the runs down with eight wickets in hand.

This time around, the venue might play a role, since the Eden is known to assist seam bowling at the beginning. KKR have a lot of power hitters in their ranks. However, it is nowhere compared to what SRH possess. The Hyderabad-based but Chennai-owned franchise have the likes of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma at the top of the order.  This duo can guarantee to wreak havoc on opposition bowlers. As for the bowling departments, SRH appear to be slightly weaker than KKR, and this is where the game might get decided.

Predicted Teams

KKR: Finn Allen, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Cameron Green, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (wk), Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, Blessing Muzarabani.

SRH: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (c) (wk), Heinrich Klaasen, Aniket Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Salil Arora, Harsh Dubey, Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga.

Key Players

Angkrish Raghuvanshi (KKR): Middle-order batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi is one of the players to watch out for in this KKR lineup. The Mumbai batter played a sublime knock of 51 runs off just 29 balls against MI, and showcased a wide range of skills, especially when hitting the ball in the air. He can be trusted to take on bowlers at any stage of the game, but especially so in the slog overs.

Abhishek Sharma (SRH): Opener Abhishek Sharma remains one of the most dangerous batters in the world. The southpaw failed to get going against RCB, getting out for 7 runs, but once he gets settled, there is hardly anyone more difficult than him to get out. Sharma is known to take his feet away from the pitch of the ball rather than towards it, as it helps him get under it and play lofted shots comfortably.

Match Prediction

SRH, one of the most dominant sides in the IPL of late, are expected to win. They will be keen on getting their campaign off to a good start with a well-earned victory. Their batting unit appears to be dangerous. With KKR not having enough bowling resources in their ranks (remember Cameron Green not being allowed to bowl by Cricket Australia), the tide appears to be in SRH’s favour completely.

Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings – Indian Premier League Match Prediction (03.04.2026)

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) meet at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai on Friday, April 3. While CSK were beaten by Rajasthan Royals in their opening fixture, PBKS got the better of Gujarat Titans at home. In this game, CSK’s combinations will be looked at closely since they still have the legendary MS Dhoni missing due to injury. Hence, it will be interesting to see how captain Ruturaj Gaikwad manages to create a balance in the squad.

PBKS had to dig deep to get a victory in their previous game, and hence, will be looking to solidify their top-order batting. Opener Priyansh Arya got out for 7 against GT and will be expected to set the ball rolling with some eye-catching strokes against CSK. However, PBKS need to be aware of the slow conditions that prevail at the Chepauk stadium, where only players who can adapt to spin well can survive.

Predicted Teams

KKR: Sanju Samson (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad (c), Ayush Mhatre, Matthew Short, Shivam Dube, Kartik Sharma, Jamie Overton, Noor Ahmad, Matt Henry, Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed.

PBKS: Prabhsimran Singh (wk), Cooper Connolly, Shreyas Iyer (c), Nehal Wadhera, Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Key Players

Sanju Samson (CSK): Sanju Samson’s resurgence in the recently concluded T20 World Cup has been well-documented. Thus, one can expect him to continue in the same vein of form. He has been taking on the big gloves in Dhoni’s absence and has also been tasked with getting CSK off to a good start. Samson can disturb the lines and lengths of the best bowlers in the world with his immaculate stroke-making.

Shreyas Iyer (PBKS): Captain Shreyas Iyer is one of the most talented batters in Indian cricket. He is known to have the ability to both rotate the strike and hit the ball in the air. Iyer is among the better players in the world against spin. He gets to the pitch of the ball quite comfortably by using his feet well.

Match Prediction

The loss in their opening encounter was a one-off event for CSK, and we expect them to bounce back. Although Dhoni is missing, the rest of the CSK squad is well-balanced, and we expect them to make the most of these conditions. CSK have always been a dominant side at home, and we believe that they will be able to overcome PBKS comfortably thanks to their spin bowling unit.
