The Legends League Cricket Match between Asia Lions and World Giants at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Monday was an entertaining affair.
Even though it was a shortened 10-overs-per-side match due to rain, former Pakistan skipper Misbah-Ul-Haq’s 19-ball cameo of 44 lit up the Stadium. Although the Asia Lions lost three early wickets, Misbah’s knock along with Tilakeratne Dilshan’s composed 32 from 24 balls helped the Lions in posting a total of 99/3 in their quota of 10 overs.
Despite having World class players like Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch, Shane Watson, and Ross Taylor in their batting unit,the Giants fell short of the target by a massive margin of 35 runs. Gayle and Lendl Simmons started off well, making a stand of 40 inside just four overs.
But things just turned upside down once Gayle was dismissed. The Giants lost five wickets while scoring just nine runs in the space of just three overs, and that turned out to be a poor period of play for them. They never recovered from that as the likes of Shahid Afridi and Abur Razzaq put them in shackles with brilliant spells. Misbah was adjudged Player of the Match as the Lions notched up an important win.
