Mohun Bagan Super Giant extended the contract to young talent, Abhishek Suryavanshi. The move will bolster their midfield. The 23-year-old midfielder has signed a three-year deal. The contract committed him to the ISL League Shield’s winners until the end of the 2026-27 season.
Suryavanshi comes from Maharashtra. He was in the team since coach Antonio Lopez Habas took the helm. His journey with Mohun Bagan began during the ISL 2023-24 season. He played the entire 90 minutes of the opening match, marking his debut.
Suryavanshi demonstrated resilience and determination against Hyderabad FC after the high-stakes Kolkata Derby. Habas clearly recognized his potential. He ensured Suryavanshi’s regular inclusion in the lineup.
Suryavanshi made 14 appearances during the season. He started in eight matches and came off the bench in six. He was a holding midfielder with evident composure and precision on the pitch. His passing accuracy of 86% is impressive. It averaged in 34 precise passes per match. His ability to deliver accurate passes earned him a consistent spot in the starting XI.
Defensively, Suryavanshi proved to be equally effective. Over the season, he recovered the ball 62 times, made 26 interceptions, and 15 clearances. His defensive acumen and tactical awareness were pivotal to Mohun Bagan’s success. Yet, he didn’t play in the final. Still, his contribution throughout the season was significant, earning him a contract extension.
The club’s decision to secure Suryavanshi’s future confirms their confidence in his potential. Mohun Bagan also retained another promising young player, 21-year-old defender Dippendu Biswas.
Biswas made his ISL debut last season. He played 223 minutes in five games, including two starts and three substitutions. His performances have earned the trust of the coaching staff.
