In a moment of immense pride for Indian cricket, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on Monday. MS Dhoni is one of the most iconic and decorated captains in the history of the sport. The ceremony was held in London. The event celebrated Dhoni’s legendary career and enduring impact on world cricket.

Dhoni’s calm demeanor and sharp instincts became the hallmark of India’s golden era in cricket. He was recognized for his achievements both as a leader and a player. The ICC Hall of Fame honours cricketers five years after their final international appearance. Dhoni became part of its prestigious list, marking another milestone in his illustrious journey.

In 2007, he guided the young Indian team to the inaugural T20 World Cup title. Then, he scripted the unforgettable 2011 ODI World Cup triumph on home soil, and clinched the Champions Trophy in 2013. Dhoni remains the only captain in history to win all three ICC white-ball trophies. His legacy as a transformative leader is etched in the annals of cricket.

“Through the ICC Hall of Fame, we pay tribute to the finest players the game has seen. These individuals have shaped cricket’s legacy and inspired generations,” said ICC Chairman Jay Shah. “We are privileged to induct seven truly outstanding individuals this year. On behalf of the ICC, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of them. I hope they cherish this recognition as a defining moment in their cricketing journey.”

A maestro with the bat, Dhoni redefined the role of the finisher in limited-overs cricket. His iconic 183 not out against Sri Lanka in 2005 remains the highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs. With over 10,000 runs at a stellar average of 50.57, Dhoni’s impact extended far beyond captaincy. It left a permanent imprint on the sport’s modern fabric.

Dhoni revolutionized wicket keeping with his quicksilver reflexes and unorthodox, yet effective, methods. His unmatched anticipation turned routine moments into game-changing ones.

Dhoni said, “It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognizes the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling is something I will cherish forever.”

Dhoni’s fellow cricket stalwarts Hashim Amla, Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith, and Daniel Vettori also joined the Class of 2025.
