The Indian cricket team had a memorable year in 2025. They overcame a lot of challenges from their opponents, but at the same time, were shown the door by others. Winning the Asia Cup was perhaps their greatest achievement in this year.
In this article, we bring to you the most memorable moments of Team India this year, and this does not mean just victories!
Victory in the Asia Cup
Perhaps the most memorable of all events for India this year was their victorious run in the Asia Cup. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the Men in Blue defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan thrice over the course of this tournament, once in the group stage, once in the Super Fours and once in the final.
An interesting outing was against their southern neighbours, Sri Lanka, in the Super Four, where both teams scored 202, and the game had to be decided by a super over. In the final, India were led by Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 to chase down a stiff 146-run target set by Pakistan after losing early wickets.
Defeat to South Africa at Home
Another memorable occasion came against South Africa in the Freedom Test series at home, although India were on the losing side. Led by Temba Bavuma, the visiting South Africans overcame India on their own patch and won the series 2-0, effectively whitewashing their hosts.
Off-spinner Simon Harmer was the wrecker-in-chief for the Proteas, as he won the Player of the Series award with 17 wickets. Defeats in Calcutta and Guwahati severely undermined India’s strength on home soil and led to questions being asked about their batters’ proficiency in playing spin.
Draw with England Away from Home
India saw a new captain, Shubman Gill, appointed ahead of their five-Test series in England in June this year. Gill had a poor start at the helm, with England winning the first match by five wickets. However, India came back strongly to win the second by 336 runs. The third was won by England, while the fourth was drawn.
India needed to win the final Test of the series to draw it, and they put up a strong performance to earn a famous victory by six runs at the Oval, with seamer Mohammed Siraj picking up nine wickets across both innings. Gill had a great series personally with the bat, taking home the Player of the Series award with 754 runs.
