The Asia Cup Board wanted to move the tournament to the UAE if the situation on the island continues to deteriorate. However, Sri Lanka was able to host the visit of Australian athletes on its territory and has now proved its ability to host the tournament. The tournament will begin on August 27, it will open with Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan match. The Asia Cup will be closed on September 11. It is planned that the Asia Cup 2022 will be the 15th tournament of the AsiaCricket Cup, the matches of which will be held in the format of Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in August and September 2022 in Sri Lanka.

6 teams will participate in the Asia Cup 2022, 5 of which have already been determined: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The participating teams are already divided into groups in the tournament: Group 1: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Group 2: India, Pakistan, Qualification Team.
